Please follow the instructions below to correctly connect your PC laptop to your network using JVC's VIPSLAN-10 Wireless Infrared Technology featuring 100% Ethernet compatibility and a maximum throughput of 10 Mbits/sec.

I. JVC Mobile Unit Installation Guide

1a. Mobile Unit Setup Using JVC Power Hub
If you decide to install the Mobile unit using the JVC Power Hub, you must use a 10BASE-T 4-pair Category 5 Ethernet cable to attach the Mobile unit to one of the available ports on the JVC Power Hub. The LED on the Mobile unit should turn red when sufficient power is being supplied to the unit.

1b. Mobile Unit Setup Using JVC T-Adapter
If you decide to install the Mobile unit using a T-Adapter, please use any standard 10BASE-T Ethernet cable to attach the T-Adapter to one of the available ports on the standard hub. Using the provided DC9.0V power adaptor, supply the T-Adapter with the required voltage by plugging in the unit to a standard 120V outlet or power strip. Once the 10BASE-T and DC voltage inputs have been connected, use a 10BASE-T 4-pair Category 5 Ethernet cable to connect the T-Adapters 10BASE-T output port to the Mobile unit. The LED on the Mobile unit should turn red when sufficient power is being supplied to the unit.

2. Once the Mobile unit is set up properly, you can now proceed to insert the correct JVC PC Card (left or right depending on your laptops PCMCIA TYPE II slot location) into the available PCMCIA slot. Make sure that the IR side of the JVC PC Card is facing away from the user and towards the Mobile unit.

3. Once the JVC PC Card is securely inserted into your laptop's PCMCIA slot, you can then position the JVC PC Card at a distance of at least 10cm away and within 1 meter, and at an angle within 30 degrees from the Mobile unit. Make sure that there is a clear path (line-of-sight) between the two devices for successful point-to-point IR communication. You may now power on your laptop and follow the driver installation procedures listed in the next section.

II. JVC PC Card Software Driver Installation Guide
Novell Netware® Client/Workstation Installation

The JVC PC Card drivers are currently being certified and incorporated into the next release version of Novell Netware. The current drivers being shipped are not yet compatible with Windows 95. Therefore, the automatic Client installations for V3.12 and V4.1 will still require some manual steps. Please follow the instructions below to verify that the JVC PC Card drivers have been copied over to your NWCLIENT directory and that your STARTNET.BAT and NET.CFG files have been correctly modified.

1. Follow the Novell Netware Client/Workstation Installation instructions listed in your Novell installation manual. When prompted to select the network interface card driver, please select a third party driver from another diskette.

2. Insert the JVC driver diskette into your floppy drive. Specify the NETWARE path (A:\NETWARE) and select the JVC driver.

3. When prompted, use the correct corresponding FRAME type of your server, available PORT address and INT number.

4. If the installation software is unable to recognize the JVC PC Card driver, then select any third party network driver to complete the installation and go to Step #5. Otherwise, skip to Step #6.

NOTE: The STARTNET.BAT and NET.CFG files must be modified in later steps

5. If you selected a third party network driver, you must then manually copy over the JVC PC Card drivers for Netware onto your hard drive.

a. Insert the JVC PC Card driver diskette into the floppy drive.

b. Copy the JVC PC Card drivers into your NWCLIENT directory.
For example:

A:
CD \NETWARE
XCOPY *.* C:\NWCLIENT /S /V
C:

6.
After a successful automatic or manual installation, you must also verify that the JVC PC Card driver for Netware (CSAATD) is correctly configured in the following files located in the default NWCLIENT directory:

a. STARTNET.BAT file must reference the CSAATD.COM driver
For example:

SET NWLANGUAGE=ENGLISH
C:\NWCLIENT\LSL.COM
C:\NWCLIENT\CSAATD.COM
C:\NWCLIENT\IPXODI.COM
C:\NWCLIENT\VLM.EXE

b. NET.CFG file must reference the JVC PC Card Link Driver section with the correct FRAME type, PORT address, and INT number.
For example:

Link Driver CSAATD
FRAME Ethernet_802.3
PORT 300
INT 5

7.
Once the STARTNET.BAT and NET.CFG files are correctly configured, you can now reboot your laptop, log into your network by using JVC's VIPSLAN-10 Wireless Infrared Technology which supports a maximum throughput of 10 Mbits/sec.

Microsoft LAN Manager® Client/Workstation Installation

1. Follow the Microsoft LAN Manager Client/Workstation Installation instructions listed in your Microsoft installation manual. When prompted to select the network interface card driver, please select a driver from another diskette.

2. Insert the JVC PC Card driver diskette into your floppy drive. Specify the drive letter (A:) and select the JVC driver.

3. When prompted, use the correct corresponding PC NAME, USER NAME, and your server's DOMAIN NAME.

4. If the installation software is unable to recognize the JVC PC Card driver, then select any third party network driver to complete the installation and go to Step #5. Otherwise, skip to Step #6.
Note: The CONFIG.SYS and PROTOCOL.INI files must be modified later

5. If you selected a third party network driver, you must then manually copy over the JVC PC Card drivers for LAN Manager onto your hard drive.

a. Insert the JVC PC Card driver diskette into the floppy drive.

b. Copy the JVC PC Card drivers into your LANMAN.DOS directory.
Make sure the correct file paths are maintained.
For example:

A:
CD \MSLANMAN.DOS\DRIVERS\NIF
XCOPY *.* C:\LANMAN.DOS\DRIVERS\NIF /S /V
CD \MSLANMAN.DOS\DRIVERS\OPTICAL\OPTPCM
XCOPY *.* C:\LANMAN.DOS\DRIVERS\OPTICAL\OPTPCM /S /V
C:

6. After a successful automatic or manual installation, you must also verify that the JVC PC Card drivers for LAN Manager (OPTPCM.NIF, OPTPCM.DOS, OPTPCM.SIS) are correctly configured in the following files located in the default LANMAN.DOS directories:
